Double stone capital carved on three sides, featuring a rich decoration of arabesques and stylised motifs in relief. The upper section is animated by an undulating frieze of scrolling vines and interlacing curves, forming a continuous band that visually structures the composition.
The basket displays a denser decorative scheme, combining radiating forms, geometric motifs and stylised vegetal elements. The carving, deep and rhythmic, creates a lively interplay of light and shadow that enhances the strong decorative presence of the piece. Traces of original polychromy, still visible in the recesses, further emphasise the historical character and the former richness of the sculpture.
This ornamental vocabulary, with Mediterranean or Oriental inflections, was appreciated in certain architectural décors of the early modern period. Intended to crown a double support or mark an architectural angle, this capital once formed part of the decoration of a high-quality civil or religious building.
