Bearded and curly head of a man in Carrara marble.

Italy, Florentine school of 16th century.

This man's head has the characteristics of a work made during the Renaissance.

We find the influence of ancient art and in particular the representation of the head of Heracles, while combining a lively and original technique in the treatment of the strands of the hair and beard, all subtly animates the face.

The work, which probably comes from an important monumental decoration, may have been produced in the Florentine Mannerist sphere, around Daniele Da Voltera.

Carrara marble, from the Apuan Mountains in Italy, has been one of the most popular stones for sculpture since ancient times. It is known for its purity and translucency, fine grain and bright white color with grey veins, making it ideal for sculpting intricate details.
