White marble fountain spout carved as a feline head.
Ancient architectural element in white marble, carved in the form of a stylised feline head. The open mouth, with its marked fangs, evokes both the utilitarian and symbolic function of the piece, originally designed to allow water to flow from a fountain.
The treatment of the volumes, simple yet expressive, highlights the animal’s strength and reflects a medieval sculptural art imbued with power and protective symbolism.
This fountain spout is typical of works from the 14ᵗʰ/15ᵗʰ centuries, probably originating from a religious or civic architectural setting.
The old patina, wear and traces of time further confirm its authenticity.
14th / 15th Century.
